Nihonga is modern and contemporary Japanese painting using traditional East Asian techniques such as brush and sumi ink, Japanese paper, and ground mineral pigments. Learn the techniques of this art in an evening workshop led by Nihonga master Yūki Ideguchi. Come prepared to paint! All materials will be provided.
This program is FREE and open to the public with registration being REQUIRED to attend. Registration will close on Friday, April 19.

Composed of the kanji for “flower,” “bird,” “wind,” and “moon,” kacho fugetsu evoke both the diverse phenomena of the natural world and a metaphorical significance beyond the physical realm.
At the exhibition, which is curated by Yuki Ideguchi, some of the collections of the Japanese Embassy in Washington, which is not normally open to the public, and works by contemporary Japanese painters are exhibited. And there are panels which explain the evolution from the “birth of Nihonga : the Japanese painting”. I introduc a new challenge of japanese paintings in the 21st century.
出口雄樹が企画した本展覧会では、普段 一般には公開されていないワシントン日本大使館の日本画コレクションの一部と、現代日本画家の作品を展示し、「日本画」誕生からこれまでの変遷、そして21世紀の現代における新たな挑戦を紹介いたします。

本作は、2017年5月から8月にかけて、イギリスの大英博物館で開催された展覧会「 Hokusai: Beyond the Great Wave」をフィーチャーした、北斎に関する映画としては初の長編ドキュメンタリー作品。制作にあたっては、イギリス人芸術家のデイヴィッド・ ホックニーや、ニューヨーク在住の新進気鋭の日本画家・出口雄樹など、北斎という偉大な巨匠の研究に情熱を燃やし、影響を受けてきたアーティストや学者たちが協力。展覧会の舞台裏や北斎の作品を通して、江戸時代の世界的天才絵師の魅力を紐解いてゆく。

Hosted by Tokyo University of the Arts Almuni Association of New York, this collaboration exhibition focuses on traditional form of Japanese art and contemporary styles evolved on its own tradition. Five artisits including two current students from the university showcase modern Japanese Paintings and three musicians will be performing traditional Japanese music and contemporary styles. Besides, two workshops will be taking place to have participants experience Japanese Painting drawing and Noh, traditional Japanese theatrical form.

They’ll have an exhibition of Hokusai. So, They interviewed me as one of successors of Hokusai.
